This was the little corner on the web where I wanted to capture my thoughts and ideas about Sketchy Information Models. From now on you can follow me on Twitter and TwitPic.
What is a Sketchy Information Model?
A Sketchy Information Model (SKIM) is a mean to inspire people to take steps toward the realization of an idea. It serves as an idea exchange platform for creative teams!
Why should I want to use a Sketchy Information Model?
Because storing sketchy ideas in a model gives a creative team the opportunity to create more generations of ideas in less time. And more (generations) is better because it provides diversity. Diversity makes it easier to recombine existing ideas into new ones so that a natural process of the survival of the fittest ideas emerges. In the end the fittest ideas will have the biggest change to become reality.
Is a Sketchy Information Model just another knowledge management system?
That depends on your definition on knowledge management system. For me the primary goal of a knowledge management system is to preserve knowledge whereas theĀ goal of a SKIM is to support a creative team in communicating their ideas in a sketchy manner, sort of a whiteboard 2.0.
What are the principles behind a Sketchy Information Model?
The core principles are expressed by the following three quotes from a genius named Albert Einstein:
- Out of clutter find simplicity. From Discord make harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.
- Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.
- If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough
How should I realize a Sketchy Information Model?
I’m glad you’re interested. Unfortunately I don’t have the definite answer to this question. But I will sketch my vision on TwitPic and hopefully somewhere in the future I will post also some pictures there of a prototype in Drupal I’m working on.
